The Curt Circuit Protected T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness - for Mazda MPV, item # 56010, will be installed inline with the connectors at the rear of the vehicle tail lights. On the drivers side and the passengers side you will need to remove the push pins, trim panels, cargo hooks and jack cover to access the tail light wiring. Once the wiring is located you will just have to disconnect the connectors, making sure not to break the locking tabs, and plug the new harness into the existing... view full answer...
The maximum speed recommended by tire chain manufacturers can vary from one chain to the next. Usually rated between 25 to 30 mph.
However, your MVP owners manual specifies not driving over 19 mph when using chains. Always go by the lower rating and make sure to drive safely in hazardous conditions. I have included a link to our FAQ article on tire chains for you. view full answer...
It is a bit confusing since there isn't any detailed info from Curt that explains it, but I can help you out. Ground effects for your 2003 Mazda MPV van are an additional trim package, and if you take a look at the accompanying photo, you can see an MPV with that trim package. You can compare your bumper to the one in the photo, or you can call a local Mazda dealer with your VIN and they will be able to tell you what is on your van.

The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part # TMRMPV should do a great job on your 2001 MPV.
This system will not affect the ride of your van when the added weight is not present but will add additional support when the van is loaded. This is a simple installation but it is recommended that the installation be done by a professional. The coil springs on your van will need to be temporarily removed to replace the bump stops with the new Timbren assembly, and then it will be re-installed.... view full answer...
The two different MPV's you mentioned are of different generations so the hitch fits between the two aren't the same.
For your 2005 you would want the part # C12288 which is a confirmed fit. This is a 1-1/4" hitch, and the only one available. There are no 2" hitches avalable.
For trailer wiring you would then want the part # 56010. view full answer...
It sounds like you picked up a 5 wire trailer connector rather than a 4 wire connector. A 4 wire trailer connector will only have a white wire for ground, brown for tail lights, green for right turn and stop and yellow for left turn and stop. The red wire on the connector that you purchased is most likely for reverse lights or a trailer with separate turn signals such as a motorcycle trailer. If you do not have reverse lights or separate turn and brake signals, then you can simply tie off... view full answer...
Transmission coolers are universal fit items, if you have space in front of your radiator then it will fit. The installation can be done with average mechanical ability.

I attached a link to the hitch install video you referenced that shows a no discontinued Hidden Hitch on a 2003 Mazda MPV. I was able to get it to play all the way through so hopefully the issue you had with the video has resolved itself. If not, maybe try a different web browser.
We currently have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # C12288. And for trailer wiring use # 56010.

You are right, with a trunk mount bike rack installed, bikes or no bikes, you cannot open the rear hatch or trunk on any vehicle including your 2003 Mazda MPV. There are a few reasons why. First, the opening between the trunk/hatch and the body of the vehicle will change shape. It can get smaller which will cause the bike rack hooks to bend the metal on the trunk lid. I have seen this happen.
The hinges are not meant to support the additional weight of the rack so if you could open it... view full answer...
In my research, I saw several reports stating that if the vehicle has the tow package, which consists of a transmission cooler and heavy duty radiator, it can tow up to 3000 lbs. Without the tow package, you'll be limited to 2000 lbs. I would urge you to confirm this for yourself. Your Mazda dealer might be able to clarify for you.
Given the fact that the vehicle has over 100,000 miles and given that your trip to California will almost certainly involve driving up and down mountains, I'd... view full answer...
The section width of the 175/80-13 tire is 6.6 inches, which is the width of the tire at its thickest point. The wheel has a zero offset, which means that the mounting pad of the wheel that sits against the hub face is centered on the width of the wheel. The distance from the furthest inside portion of the wheel to the mounting pad would be half the tire width, which is 3.3 inches. The tire has a capacity of 1660 lbs at 65 psi.

The center of the chain hanger brackets would sit about 30 inches rearward of the center of the trailer ball. When the chains are connected to the lift brackets and the brackets are lifted, the chains should be straight up and down, not at an angle.
If something's in the way that would prevent installing the lift bracket so its center is about 30 inches rearward of the center of the trailer ball, you could use a bolt on bracket like # RP58305. Since these brackets aren't hinged, you'd... view full answer...
We can help you find a suitable hitch for your 2001 Mazda MPV.
For your 2001 Mazda MPV we do offer two sizes and classes of trailer hitch receiver, both a 1-1/4-inch Class II type and a higher-capacity 2-inch Class III. Correct fits for these will depend on whether your MPV has the ground effects package. The linked page will allow you to select your vehicle style from the drop-down menu to then see hitches that are compatible.

From what I could find it appears that models that do have the ground effects will have a trim piece at the bottom of the rear bumper that also wraps around to the sides of the vehicle. I included a picture with an arrow pointing to the area in question next to a van that does not have that trim piece. However, I do recommend contacting a Mazda dealer and have them run the VIN number and they can tell you what options came with the van.

I spoke with my contact at Thule about using the Thule Trunk-Mounted Passage 3-Bike Carrier # TH911XT with your 1998 Mazda MPV van while towing a trailer.
